Subject: National Guard Soldiers Spreading Mulch
National Guard soldiers are often deployed to assist in catastrophic weather events, riots, and even were used during the fallout from the coronavirus pandemic. Today, their mission vitally important and lifesaving to the residents of DC: spreading mulch.
Typically, custodial work like this falls to the National Park Service, which was already facing staffing shortfalls when the Trump administration this spring directed additional cuts as it gutted the federal workforce. The service used to have 200 people assigned to maintain thousands of acres of trees and gardens in D.C., and now there are 20, a Park Service official told The Post."
Brilliant use of resources. Those men and women must be delighted to be away from their jobs, schools, and families to keep D.C. safe and secure by, umm, err, spreading fresh mulch.
