Y'know, last year when we walked into the local Walmart and saw that they had only 1 manned checkout open and 20+ self-scan checkouts, I said to wife "They are betting that the extra shoplifting will lose them less than they save on checkout persons salaries."

On the way out we watched a large lady with an overflowing cart scanning about every other item.
