It's amazing to me how ingrained the notion that having an illegal workforce is somehow something we just have to accept.

It's not. Previous administrations have attempted to change immigration laws in a way that would make this workforce legal and/or allow legal immigration to replace the illegal immigration. But those efforts were largely blocked by your side of the aisle.

That is the insanity (or stupidity) that annoys a lot of people. As albaby put it so succinctly, there are tradeoffs here. Those tradeoffs are dictated by economic laws that are just as immutable as the laws of science. (Which is a whole other area affected by the same insanity/stupidity.)
