My guess is that, coming from such a straitjacketed society, that having battlefield initiative would not be something they are trained for.
There's nothing like good, seasoned, well trained troops. What was surprising was how bad Wagner's troops were. Wagner's troops advanced on an American position and we could outshoot them with accurate hits on their vehicles from farther away. So they never hit us. And Wagner troops were supposed to be better than normal Russian troops. They didn't understand the weapons they were going up against.
