Subject: submersible
I imagine most folks here know about the tourists in the missing submersible that went to see the Titanic.

The Titanic is over 12000 feet down. I could probably count on two hands the number of submersibles capable of getting down there. None are close, and the crew only had about 90 hours of oxygen. They're making a show of rescuing, but I don't see how it's possible. They're hundreds of miles from the nearest land...further from the nearest submersible that could do that (Woods Hole?). Even if the banging they think they're hearing are those folks, at least half of their 90 hours is gone. Even if Alvin was on-site already, they would still have to find the lost craft (it could be anywhere within a couple square miles assuming it was on-target for Titanic), and then figure out a way for it to blow ballast. But Alvin isn't on-site, and I doubt it could be airlifted (which is the only way to deploy quickly...a ship will take a couple of days just to get there).

Not that I enjoy being a pessimist, but I just don't see it ending well. Unless I've overlooked something.

Evidently, reading the latest update, a craft named Victor is en-route. But it won't arrive until late Wed. And then it still has to be deployed. It's capable of diving to Titanic, but that is really pushing the O2 situation for the tourists. And then they have to figure out the problem (if they find the Titan), and fix it, without humans in dive suits.
