LurkerMom: President Trump champions the life of a viable child in the womb and its right to be born, whereas Biden advocates abortion.
I see you made your statement conditional, requiring viability, so I guess I'll swat that hornet's nest.
Viability is about 24 weeks. So you're saying that Trump advocates abortions prior to 24 weeks, then.
Then Biden and Trump aren't really much different.
According to the data, about 99.1 percent of all abortions were performed at 21 weeks or earlier (93.5% of abortions were performed at ≤13 weeks’ gestation; a smaller number of abortions, 5.7%, were performed at 14–20 weeks’ gestation).
The CDC estimates that 0.9% of abortions were performed at ≥21 weeks’ gestation. Another study put the number of abortions performed after 24 weeks at 0.02%.
Of those, it's hard to imagine that many third-trimester abortions are not medically necessary. What is the logic in carrying a fetus for six months only to decide to abort it unless the fetus is no longer viable, the mother's health or ability to have future pregnancies is at risk? A 2022 study of patients seeking abortions later in pregnancy found that they fell into two categories: either they had learned new information about their pregnancies that made them no longer desirable, such as the emergence of serious fetal or their own health issue; or experiencing barriers to abortion services during the pregnancy.
Today, Trump wrote a Truth Social message talking about bans at "6 weeks, 10 weeks, 15 weeks, or whatever".
When asked at his Wisconsin rally today if he supported Florida's 6-week ban, he refused to answer. But since he keeps patting himself on the back for ending abortion, he'll have to come up with a better answer than "we'll have an answer in a week".
With Trump, that tends to mean never.
