Subject: Re: Second Drug Boat Sunk
What’s not being understood is that the drug war is one of the ultimate expressions of…economics.

The cartels have billions of dollars, the best lawyers and in some cases, judges and police on the payroll. The economic cost to any of their drug runners on a per trip basis is fairly low: make money when you don’t get caught, spend ten minutes in jail when you do.

When you have the equivalent resources of a small nation-state at your disposal, you
can operate at will.

Especially when you have contacts with a very large nation state who happens to have a keen interest in poisoning its main enemy.

What to do, then?

Change the balance of the fundamental economics. There’s no ten minutes in jail any more for many of these clowns.
