Subject: Jim Clyburn is right
Ezra Klein outlines the three possible paths if Biden resigns. Capsule version: coronation, contest, or chaos.

Coronation: Biden hands the reins to Kamala, she picks a VP. Pro: orderly. Con: delegates & voters have no input.

Contest: Party leaders arrange a hasty two week series of debates between contenders, televised. Kamala is well positioned but not assured. Delegates choose at the convention. Pro: everyone gets a look-see, delegates get input, prepares for 2028 if nothing else. Con: hurt feelings if Kamala doesn’t get something.

Chaos: everything happens at the convention. Eventual vote selects candidate as conventions used to do. Pro: candidate selected. Con: takes away 3 days of Trump bashing and is messy.

The best (IMO) is “contest”, offered up by Jim Clyburn of SC, who engineered Biden’s rise to the top of a fractious primary process in 2019. My favorite part is that it would deprive Trump of being able to dominate the news cycle for weeks and weeks. Anyway, here’s the column:
