Because these people <mostly> would not come into contact with those background checks. Now a reasonable red flag law I think is worth discussion and implementation.

BTW, I have had background checks performed for all the guns I have bought over the years. I really don't know how to avoid it except go the bad side of town and pay cash and hope I don't robbed in the process. So I wouldn't attempt that but there are plenty of criminals who would.
