I agree with Hitchens on this point...actually, a lot of his points. But he said (paraphrasing) "I don't understand the eagerness for the end of the world". I don't.

As for being left behind, I think if we can get rid of all the religious fanatics (of all types), being "left behind" would be great. Then we could really fix some problems, no more wars over whose god gave which people some land, etc.
