It's still mind boggling to me that even after 4.5 billion years of cooling, Earth is still hot enough deep down (and not really that deep at all!) to cause molten rock to erupt from the surface. My understanding is that most of the heat is due to the radioactive decay of uranium. So, the hell with solar - we need to tap the interior of the Earth much more! (yeah, I know heat pumps and other geothermal systems already do that to some extent)
