Subject: Re: Historic Homicide Rates
I did notice when we were there a large concentration of drugged-out vagrants just up-hill from the piers, but also a STRONG police presence there. But I don't know what is behind that. There may be things peculiar to Seattle that are in play. Is Tacoma similarly affected? Puyallup?

You're describing 3rd Avenue, which the city let devolve into an open-air drug and stolen goods market:

(From 2022)
HAPPENING NOW: Just hours after a shooting on 3rd Ave in Downtown Seattle, the insanity has returned. This is the stretch between Pike/Pine St. Open air drug use, sales of all kinds of merch, trash everywhere. How is this allowed?

San Francisco is having a problem with car break-ins. Mark Rober (inventor of the glitter bomb) actually tackled that as part of his glitter bomb series, and determined that SF was NOT closing down a known fencing operation (for whatever reason). So...lax enforcement? Seemed like it.

it's not just that. The cops are only the 1st link in a very broken chain.

*Politicians pass laws like high dollar limits for shoplifting, cashless bail, no pursuits for car thefts, etc.
*Police quit en masse
*Prosecutors refuse to prosecute
*Judges release criminals back out into the wild

It's happened up and down the west coast. You should be glad to live in a purplish place that doesn't put up with the extreme woke elements.
