No, Trump makes it sound as if Europe has been "asleep at the switch" with respect to protecting Greenland in a manner which will allow it to continue to serve as a defensive bulwark for the West.

In a single stroke, Trump has now forced the other NATO nations to pay attention to Greenland and by inference to start paying for more of the defensive infrastructure, rather than with many other items in NATO, leaving all of the expenses and work to the USA.
