Hey who used to say on TMF that UK in some ways foretells American politics.

The British industrial base seems to have been some 20-30 years ahead of the US industrial base, watching their sales and earnings wither because their products are obsolete, quality is poor, and management is too interested in golfing to address their company's structural problems.

For those who have an extra 25 minutes, I find this film fascinating. Produced by British Leyland, in 1977. In the film, Leyland admits it's machine tools are worn out, admits it's factories are hopelessly obsolete, but still eaves it up to the line workers to produce a high quality product. B-L, notorious for horrid quality products, went toes up, years ago.

I remember seeing Vickers Viscount and VC-10 airliners at DTW. Now what remains of the British commercial aircraft industry builds components for Airbus, in France.
