My father-in-law flew in B-24s. Shot down over Germany on his second mission and was POW for the last 8 months of the war. Bailed out and when he hit the ground was beaten by the locals with shovels and axe handles. Was saved by a older gentleman who claimed him as a POW. Four of the crew went down with the plane and died. One of the five that bailed out was summarily executed by a German soldier (after the war that soldier was hung as a war criminal).

James is still going at 100 years old and proudly voted for Harris this last week.

My own father served with an Army Air Corps aerial reconnaissance outfit in the Pacific Theater. He's passed away at age 85.
