Subject: Catching up
I've been catching up on some of the speeches at the DNC that I was interested in hearing. Just watched Kinzinger's address from the final night. He was well received, but more importantly, he identified exactly the problem. The Republican party has lost its way and is no longer the conservative party. It is the Trump party.

One of the commenters on the video said this:

Democrats applauding a Republican, and a Republican voting for a Democrat is so surreal. Only Kamala can make this happen. Go KAMALA!!!

I'm going to disagree. Much as I admire VP Harris and appreciate what she is attempting to do, she is not the source of this surreal alliance. The source is Donald Trump.

It is Donald Trump whose hate and fear mongering are driving people away from the Republican party. It is Donald Trump whose racism and misogyny is driving people away. It is Donald Trump whose criminality is driving people away. It is Donald Trump whose love for self over love for country is driving people away.

The sooner the remaining Republicans realize this, the sooner they can take their party back and we can again have two political parties who disagree on policy but agree that people in both parties are simply doing what they believe is best for the country. Until then, we have only one functioning political party. And that is the only party that can be trusted to use the power given to them by the people for the benefit of the whole country rather than for their personal benefit.

My hope is that this return to sanity and respect happens soon. Because trusting just one party for too long will eventually cause different, but just as severe, problems.
