It's only a matter of time before polyamorous marriages (i.e. more than 2 people) are also legally recognized.

Because, why not?

Why shouldn't a marriage be recognized among more than two people?

It will definitely complicate things like eligibility for health care benefits, social security, filing of tax returns, but we are a great nation and can figure these things out.

I'm reminded of young Alvy Singer's mother in Annie Hall.

Mrs. Singer: He's been depressed. All of a sudden, he can't do anything.

Dr. Flicker: Why are you depressed, Alvy?

Mrs. Singer: Tell Dr. Flicker. It's something he read.

Dr. Flicker: Something you read, huh?

Alvy Singer: The universe is expanding.

Dr. Flicker: The universe is expanding?

Alvy Singer: Well, the universe is everything, and if it's expanding, someday it will break apart, and that will be the end of everything.
