Subject: atheist empathy check
is it just me, or does a general loss of empathy come with religions leanings of all flavors?
in a week dominated by a single global story, there was hardly a blip regarding the deaths of 2400 civilians that died in an earthquake. yes, muslim and even more impoverished than gaza, so that correlates to a lot of the media non-coverage.
even the civilian ~800 MONTHLY deaths and ~1500 MONTHLY injuries in ukraine can not get seem to get any perspective. (ukraine offered support immediately, while Israel remains neutral towards any defensive weapon support against russia for ~2 years now)
if there is anything to realize here, its that hamas (and gaza civilians) stand as little a chance against IDF as they have against the pro-israeli propaganda machine (ref: bari weiss, who believes this must be the greatest calamity in history and is likely unaware of some earthquake). yes, we expect the IDF to be less barbaric as they have the technology to take a morally superior ground. but those little kids will be equally dead.
for the record, am actually an atheist with friends of all religions in my safe american state.
