In Michigan, you do not register to vote by party affiliation. But, I decided to volunteer to be a polling place worker, in 2018. To work at a polling place, I did need to declare a party affiliation. A few years ago, I stopped in at the township clerk's office to ask how long they retain that record, because I realized it was a mistake to leave footprints. iirc, I received a letter inviting me to be a polling place worker again, last year. If I don't receive such a letter next year, I'll probably have been purged from their system, due to inactivity, and safe.

An official from MSF was on the news, again, last night, condemning Israel's actions in Gaza. I stopped donating to MSF several years ago, but I, apparently, have not been deleted from their list yet, as I still receive mailings. So, when MSF is prosecuted for being "antisemitic", there is another footprint I left.
