The majority of people in the U.S. want logical gun-control regulations to minimize the risk of lethal weapons reaching the wrong hands. - Sheila
If only. That is just camel's nose. The majority of gun control advocates were prefer a total ban coupled with confiscation. It is true but for the obvious reason they can't admit it.
Trump won the presidency in 2016 in the Electoral College despite Hillary Clinton having won the popular vote (though that's certainly not the first time that unfortunate discrepancy has occurred). - more sheils
It is not an unfortunate discrepancy, it is a feature our founding fathers wisely included in the Constitution. Without it, we would governed by Calif, NY and Illinois. The rest of country would be more or less disenfranchised.
And look at what permitted gerrymandering has done to silence so many local majorities on election day. - sheila
Agree with you here. The shape of some districts is absurd for the very problem you point out, and it cuts both both ways. But I am not sure how to remedy. Perhaps something whereby the number of districts is determined by population but shape having some math and geometry rules applied. Probably would require a constitutional amendment.
A democracy rests on majority rule. So.....where are we? - sheila
