putin needs to continue crude sales to china\india to keep the [war] economy afloat, as he has other ways to keep grumpy russians in line. if putin becomes too heavy-handed, there is no sign the populace can\will do anything.
will be hilarious if putin has to purchase some of his oil back from india in refined form at multiples of internal [e.g., rosneft] profit benchmarks. that would be some trump-level biz genius.
