It's interesting. China, with a rapidly growing economy, not just nominally, but also relative to the other large world economies, for decades, yet it still shows very anemic overall stock market performance. Normally you would expect that growing productivity and a rapidly growing GDP would produce better overall stock market results. Seems odd to me. Can anyone explain it?

Here's a link to the Shanghai Composite Index chart to illustrate what I am saying. Looks like it has barely tripled since the mid-late-1990s. Do they distribute [almost] all profits in the form of dividends that don't show up in this chart?
