"Bibi" wants the same outcome as in Iraq, Syria, and Libya: total destruction of the regime.
Sure, but I don't think Trump gives a rat's patoot what Bibi wants. He's a super-transactional guy. Bibi's useful to him, so he certainly is willing to accommodate to a point - and he wants a Gaza Nobel Prize. But that and a dime will buy you a cup of coffee, if you were in 1930.
Trump wanted a quick win with little cost. He was convinced he could re-run the Venezuela playbook and look like a hero for finally seizing the quick low-cost win that was always on the table but his predecessors were too dumb/chicken/woke to just take. He has now learned that his predecessors weren't dumb/chicken/woke, but simply perceptive enough to realize the geostrategic advantages that Iran had.
Think for a moment. If the war had continued at 10/10s, someone would be out of ammo now, and the issue would be settled.
Probably not. Or rather, the war was never at 10/10. If the war had involved a massive amount of ground troops, the issue would be settled. If we had just continued dropping bombs? Not settled, because you can't eliminate Iran's ability to maintain control over the Strait and inflict damage on their neighbor's energy infrastructure just by dropping bombs.
That's why the Strait is still closed. Not because Trump wants it to be closed (much less that being an objective of the war), but because we can't stop Iran from closing it without ground troops. And we're not going to send in ground troops. Bombing won't work. Negotiations aren't working. We don't want it to be closed, but don't have a way to get it back open without a heavy cost. That's why the morass continues....
