No, it's not. The current statement isn't saying anything different from what was announced back in December. Here's what the WH said today:

"After research and study, the drones that were flying over New Jersey in large numbers were authorized to be flown by the FAA for research and various other reasons. Many of these drones were also hobbyists, recreational and private individuals that enjoy flying drones,"

Same thing - the drones included some that were authorized by the FAA for research and other reasons and many of them were also hobbyists, recreational and private individuals that enjoy flying drones (which don't all have to be registered).

It's the exact same information. It was bad and insufficient before, because it was Biden (and an official release from the Department of Homeland Security); but it's good and satisfactory now, because it is Trump (and just the press secretary repeating a conversation with the President, nothing more formal).
