Subject: Re: Tribal lands in Canada update
Well, Canada has royal lands and they've given a bunch of land back to the natives. If you look at us, we're not giving land anywhere close to what Canada is doing, we have a different legal system, and we compensate at fair market value, but so does Canada.
"If a land claim settlement in Canada involves converting private land to reserve status, the landowner is compensated
. Generally, the government's policy is to not dispossess third parties (private landowners) as a result of specific land claim settlements. Instead, the First Nation typically receives financial compensation to purchase other lands, or the government acquires the land from willing sellers."
Other than fishing rivers, most of the land becoming tribal is out in the middle of nowhere in the USA.
However, the Yeet Tribe has filed a tribal claim in Florida for Mar a Lago and the golf course. :)
