Subject: Competition in Communications?
Two news items from Bloomberg today indicate a shifting communications business environment and much greater competition for communiczation services than we have seen until now:

Comcast to Spin Off NBCUniversal and Sky, Sending Shares Soaring: https://www.bloomberg.com/news.... Concast is separating their legacy cable business from their high-growth streaming business so they can move forward more nimbly.

Rocket Lab to Buy Iridium for $8 Billion in Challenge to SpaceX. https://www.bloomberg.com/news.... "Buy don't build" effort to serve the enormous market for private communications services. Much smaller than SpaceX, but the same idea, and well beyond the start-up phase.

Because we live in an information age, communications services sit at an interesting intersection of culture, technology and finance. And of course, global strategic power. What kinds of services does the global economy demand, and how will they be delivered? Changes in all three areas right now are having profound effects. Some of these effects are local, others are global. Some parts of the market are expanding rapidly, and others are shrinking. it's hard to predict what it will look like in 10 years. I used to think a few multinational companies would dominate, but now I am not so sure...

Any comments or links welcome.
