"We have completed our very successful attack on Hawaii. A full payload of BOMBS was dropped on the primary site, Pearl Harbor.
Tonight, I can report to the world that the strikes were a spectacular military success.
Congratulations to our GREAT Japanese Warriors. There is not another military in the WORLD that could have done this.
NOW IS THE TIME FOR PEACE! Thank you for your attention in this matter.” ~Hirohito, Dec 07, 1941

I get the point, but it's a bad point. Japan was no match for the USA in terms of industry. Yamamoto knew it, and said if the US did not sue for peace quickly, that Japan was doomed. The fact that the declaration of war was late in arriving assured that we wouldn't sue for peace.

More apt comparisons would be Vietnam, Afghanistan (both Soviet and us), and Ukraine (Putin). Larger powers attacking smaller powers with an expectation of a quick victory that never materialized.
