Subject: Re: 5 year challenge - update
Final update after 5 years!
This challenge was originally posted on December 10, 2020, a moment of market exuberance for SaaS stocks, which is why SNOW was included. Also, Berkshire (our friend Todd Combs) had invested in the IPO of Snowflake a few weeks earlier, an investment that yielded only modest profits in the 3.5 years it was held.
BRK-A traded at $340,000 at the time, as did:
18.8 Bitcoin
940 SNOW
930 SPY
1770 TSLA (3:1 split adjusted)
Poll results for the best price performance over 5 years were:
44% (32 Votes) 1 BRK-A
22% (16 Votes) 930 SPY (with dividends)
18% (13 Votes) 18.8 Bitcoin
9% (7 Votes) 940 SNOW
5% (4 Votes) 1770 TSLA
Actual results after 5 years:
Bitcoin +399% CAGR +37.9%
TSLA +135% CAGR +18.6%
BRK-A +116% CAGR +16.7%
SPY +102% CAGR +15.1%
SNOW -40% CAGR - 9.8%
Which is the same ranking as a year ago.
