On the contrary, they very much believe that having a [d] after your name shields you from consequences. That mentality is shot through liberal 'thought'.
There's a few things that historically have shielded someone from consequences, but [d] after you name wasn't one of them.
1) being white
2) being a cop or a judge.
3) being wealthy (they are different)
4) being connected (knowing someone)
There's probably a few more, but the list of things that won't shield you is much longer. Remember when Judge Roy Bean declared that Chinamen weren't human beings and let the fellow off who'd shot and killed a Chinaman? Law West of the Pecos...
