Subject: Re: RIP Joe Lieberman
This is too bad. Went before his time.

I can differentiate politics from people and on that - Senator Lieberman was one of the good guys. Decent. Humorous. I really enjoyed him.

3 moments I remember
********************

1.)Swearing in of new Congress, after election 2000.

Al Gore presiding. I feel Hillary sort of smirked. Lieberman - honestly felt sympathy.

2.)Debate with Dick Cheney was HILARIOUS. Once Lieberman used 'major leaguer' lol. THEN...that was the week Cheney's vast Halliburton fortune was in the papers and in an off the cuff moment, Lieberman says 'Dick I'm pleased to see you've done well in the private sector" - Cheney retorts the gov't had nothing to do with it and both share a laugh BUT THEN Lieberman says "my wife is here and she's probably thinking - hey wouldn't it be nice if my husband went to the private sector". Cheney nails it and says "I'm here to help you do that Joe" - OH MAN hilarious - even Lieberman laughed.

At the end they had a warm handshake, they were talking how the aides wouldn't let them wear watches to the debate. (Yes, I was a CSPAN geek when I care about American politics)

3.)FINALLY.... In a primary debate, and I'm paraphrasing Stephanopolous: "Senator Lieberman, the criticism of you is that you're too nice, that you wont' go on attack". Lieberman says with a smile "well George.....first I'd like to come over there and strangle you!' and everyone cracked up.

Anyways, the torch continues to be passed from decent men - to tribalized social media cyborgs from the trailer park, barrio, and ghetto. Anyways, as Senator Lieberman used to say....

"VIVA CHUTZPAH!"
