Subject: Merchan
I was just reading a bit about the trial of Trump's that judge Merchan is overseeing. I know it's a bad idea to defy a judge, but this guy seems really no-nonsense. He's issued a gag order against Trump, and has warned Trump's legal team not to cross the line between zealous advocacy and "willful disregard" of the court's orders. We'll see if he follows through on any penalties (assuming Trump and/or his team violate the rules set down by the judge). It seems like he doesn't want his courtroom turned into a circus like some of Trump's other trials (where Trump made multiple outbursts without any significant consequence).
In principle, Merchan could toss Trump in jail. But I'm wondering how that would work, given that Trump has a secret service detail (as all former POTUSes do, unless they relinquish that privilege). Just a thought experiment. It's more likely he would just get a fine.
