I thought this was interesting. I didn't know this about the vaccine(s). Apparently, a safer vaccine was available (Salk), but a company with sloppy quality controls made some bad batches, and suddenly everyone thought the vaccine was the problem. But, in fact, it was the manufacturer. So people were freaked, and switched to a live virus version. I remember the sugar cubes, so evidently I got the weakened live virus, not the dead one. Didn't know that.
Oversight is a good thing. It keeps corporations on their toes (most of the time).

(Also reminds me of the Tesla/Edison feud of AC vs DC...Edison was electrocuting animals with AC, etc, but in the end AC won out because it was safer, and more sustainable in terms of resistance losses, etc)
