I do know that honorary degrees are not self conferred but the point you are missing is that LM and I are poking fun at is the vacuous nature of the Professorship. It was not intended to exhibit rigorous adherence to the process by which such a job title is awarded.

In a somewhat related matter, I would not recommend Professor Biden's wife, Dr. Jill to remove your appendix despite what her title may lead you to believe.
