See Markel board for my notes from the recent Markel Reunion. Markel appears to have its insurance operations in a more efficient place going forward. Markel gave some insights as to how insurance risks in some situations have taken some worrisome turns that they are now working to avoid. I would imagine Berkshire's insurance units are also seeing these worrisome turns ("social inflation") and are taking similar steps.
