Subject: the Arctic
Still catching up on Perun. Development of the Arctic, and the players involved. Lots of good info. The US isn't part of the Arctic committee, but we apparently respect much of its rules as commonsense international law. Though we did declare a good chunk of the Arctic based on continental shelf extent (which is part of international law). I did like Perun's comment that any complaint can be filed with the US Navy.

And, China wants to get in on it. Obviously they have no continental shelf claims (much as they don't in the Philippines, either), but they are (sensibly) interested in Arctic trade routes. Their "near-Arctic nation" claims are absurd, though (unless you consider Italy and Spain "near-Arctic").

Good stuff.
