For Tesla? Make a ton of money, which he has. They OWN the premium EV market and are the market mover. Everybody is playing catch-up to them.

I think he figured out a long time ago that the EV market for next 10-20 years is limited to more affluent urban dwellers who live <30 miles from wherever they go and don't take very many multi-day trips. So they can use their cars the way they use their cell phones: do whatever all day and then charge them up at night.

(Cue somebody with an anecdote about how they once towed 25,000lbs of gear over the Rockies in a subzero snowstorm)
