That certainly happens. But there are notable exceptions: Sharp Objects, Normal People, Watchmen, Fleishman is in Trouble, Dark Winds (the various books), the Longmire series, Lessons in Chemistry, the Bosch series (although I'm not enjoying the final season as much), Jurassic Park, Case Histories, Where the Crawdads Sing, and The Handmaid's Tale, for example. I haven't yet seen the adaptation of One Hundred Years of Solitude. But I take your point.
