From what I've read, about 40% are granted asylum. So, yes, 60% is a majority. But 40% is a lot of people fleeing genuine life-threatening situations. It would be callous in the extreme to ignore that. Plus it would violate our obligations under the GC.

It's likely more, but without counsel it is a good bet that many with legit claims lose in court.

And I don't recall now what percentage never get past the initial screening, but it's a lot. Hardly an open border.
