It would help if the success stories (along with how the successes were achieved) were promoted with equal vigor and frequency as the downtrodden stories.

Perhaps the problem is that the appetite for the downtrodden stories is much greater.

You should also realize that American efforts at destroying indigenous Americans isn't limited to the days of the settlers. There is a cruel history.....until quite recently....of the approach by government of separating children from their families and culture and place them in boarding schools where they were treated as second class citizens and every effort was made to erase their countless-centuries-old tribal culture, traditions, and values and replace them with American Protestantism. And doing this while creating harshly discriminatory conditions on the reservations.
