I'd have to dust off my old WWII library, and/or do some online research to recall all the details. But that is what I'm remembering.
I have the Shirer book around here somewhere.
As for what former SA people said, after the war, first, unless they were the ones lighting the fire, their testimony is probably hearsay, and, second, they had an incentive to tell Allied interrogators what they wanted to hear. Having survived the Reich, they were probably pretty good at figuring out what the interrogators wanted to hear, and saying it.
