Subject: In Texas, KKK > Students/Staff
Texas is about to ban protesting at public universities between the hours of 10 PM and 8 AM, with a bill Gov. Greg Abbott will sign into law imposing restrictions on the times and means that students and employees can protest. Just students and staff.
The bill defines speech more broadly as "expressive activities." Expressive activities include any speech or conduct protected by the First Amendment, including protests, speeches and circulating petitions.
The bill also prohibits camping or erecting tents on campus, wearing a disguise while engaging in speech to avoid being identified or lowering a U.S. flag to put up another nation's flag.
Obviously, this bill was written to subjugate the university community itself, while allowing ruling-party associated groups freedom to do whatever they want to do during those same hours.
Groups like, well, the KKK. Or groups from anywhere else in the country can come onto Texas public college campuses and protest outside dormitories where students -- who pay tuition and attend classes -- would be arrested if they confronted the outsiders.
Can't you see it now: Mad King Donald sending in the Marines to arrest students and protect the KKK. Pretty much on-brand for the republican party these days.
