Let the piledriving of New York City begin!

Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani vowed Thursday to stop clearing homeless encampments throughout the Big Apple — ending a signature initiative pushed by the Adams administration since taking office.

The Democratic Socialist flatly told reporters at an unrelated press conference in Manhattan that he would stop all sweeps of makeshift settlements come the new year when he is sworn in as mayor.

“If you are not connecting homeless New Yorkers to the housing that they so desperately need, then you cannot deem anything you’re doing to be a success,” Mamdani said of the Adams policy, which has faced criticism for not getting those homeless people into permanent homes after the sweeps.

This is where the scam of the Homeless Industrial Complex comes in. We've got LOADS of experience with it here in the Pacific Northwest.

Most of the homeless in tent encampments aren't there because Amazon put them there -or- that they're down on their luck. High-functioning, industrious people tend to work their way into better situations. These are the people that supplemental housing programs are designed for.

But the majority of street campers are drug addicts and/or mentally ill (with the mental illness often fallout from drug abuse). These folks are deep in the lifestyles and *don't want* any housing that comes with strings attached. Even if you offer some of them so-called "low barrier" housing (read: you can make, sell and do all the drugs that you want) some of them still prefer the street lifestyle.

Having lived through the "Housing first" insanity in Seattle I can say that New York is in for some fun times! If you stop making life uncomfortable for street camping you're going to get...much more street camping! Can't wait to see photos of tents in Times Square.
