Subject: Re: Tom Homan: "Game on"
Last time, the Feds seemed to want to co-op local police. Local police explained that to keep crime down they need the cooperation of immigrant communities. So we're going to create a condition where community cooperation may stop, increasing crime, by withholding Federal funds, so we can get and deport criminals. Sounds like lose-lose to me. I want less crime. So let the Governor make statements, ask for his cooperation in deporting criminals and I think you'll get that cooperation.
Wait a second. Weren't you on team "there is no crime crisis"? Seems incongruent for you to say you want less crime when there's no crime crisis now.
At any rate, federal law trumps state law and cities can be compelled via federal court to hand over detainees who are on ICE watch lists.
