The week's question
In December 2024, in the thread "Re: BRK: Why Not XOM?", BreckHutHigh asked the members: "What about the long road trips with kids?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

It is likely that Trump will have Musk work on government "efficiency". The key problem here is most of government is a service organization, as opposed to a manufacturing operation. In the Musk biography from Isaacson, it is noted that the primary way Musk improves efficiency is to keep subtracting things until it breaks. His mantra was if you don't have to put at least a few things back, you have not subtracted enough. So basically, break it and then fix it. How do you know when you have "broken" the service organization? Is there some sort of threshold for the rate of complaints? Who is monitoring and tracking those complaints if the organization has been gutted?

It is likely there will be significant reductions in support for the IRS. If you have questions or problems it is increasingly unlikely you will be helped. Just do the best you can and certainly err on the side of giving yourself the benefit as enforcement is going to be very weak. It will be interesting to see how much tax revenue declines as enforcement is reduced.

A bigger issue is if you have problems with Medicare or SS benefits as it is increasing unlikely you will be able to get help to resolve the issues.

If you are a corporation, feel free to violate all regulations as it is unlikely there will be any enforcement mechanism left.

Interesting times...
