I'm just giddy over their "progress". I've been plugged out of news but was scanning some recent trends, happenings, and statistics.

Oh God this is good.

And meanwhile, in Oakland...

https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2023/jul/30/c...

California NAACP wants emergency declared over Oakland's crime

Heh.

'Our community members are in danger and elected officials are turning their heads away. Crime is at an all time high in Oakland and we are calling the mayor to step up and work with the Oakland branch on this critical issue and call for a state of emergency,' said Rick L. Callender, NAACP regional president. 'We cannot sit around and do nothing when people are in danger doing daily activities, trying to survive.'

And yet, the NAACP will end up endorsing the same exact type of elected democrat that put their city in the predicament that it's in today.

That's the story up and down the west coast, by the way - dizzy voters put in incompetent politicians who make their lives worse. They complain about things, hold rallies...and then vote in the same exact types of loser. Then start the cycle over and over again.

Let's check in on Seattle. Now we have IED's! It's like Iraq:

https://www.king5.com/article/news/local/seattle/d...

SEATTLE ' New details have emerged from a large explosion in Seattle near Harborview Medical Center (HMC) last week at a homeless encampment.

According to a police report, Seattle police and fire officials responded to the scene west of the Harborview Medical Center next to Interstate 5 just before 5:30 a.m. on July 21. Officers observed people fleeing from an encampment yelling that there were bombs going off and live ammunition that could explode.

Police were clearing the encampments before secondary explosions and gunfire sounds led them to seal off the perimeter of the encampment to avoid any further injuries. Witnesses later relayed the events that led up to the explosion, including a feud between rival drug suppliers and a designated tent where people exchange money for drugs.

The witness told police that minutes before the explosion, someone saw improvised explosive devices outside the encampment and yelled for everyone inside to flee.

Harborview is IIRC the only Level 1 trauma center in the entire Pacific Northwest, so it's important we don't blow it up. Of course, since this happened on their property at least the blown-up homeless guys had a quick trip to the ER.

City council primary elections are underway up here. There are actually decent candidates on the ballot but keep an eye on how this moron does:

https://www.seattle.gov/council/lewis

He has one of the worst records of any elected official anywhere in the country. If he makes it past the primary it'll validate how dumb Seattle voters are.

It's a reflection on the GQP that, considering the dismal status of homeless people, that voting Dem is still the lesser of 2 evils.

IMHO, that's a national problem. It seems the same sorts of people run for office all the time. If you vote out candidate X, candidate Y is just a variation of candidate X. That's been the case for decades. The system has inertia, and the real power brokers (like McConnell) hold the reins. So a fiery candidate promising to shake the system till it crumbles can't do much.

Even after I gave up my Republican-ness, I registered as an independent for over a decade. I always voted for whomever I thought was best (or least worst), regardless of party. But I couldn't be a part of the Republican Party anymore. Well, there is very little difference in candidates from a given party, but there is a big difference between the parties now. At least in AZ, the Reps put up crazy people (like Lake or McSally), and the Dems put up, well, nobody to get excited about (Sinema, Hobbs, Kelly). Sinema actually caused some drama (which isn't what we hired her for). Hobbs and Kelly are just doing the job without any major splashes, and probably the same as any other Dem candidate would have done it. Sinema is really smart, but she has developed an angle that I'm not sure of. She is governing differently than she campaigned, and it's not because of "the system".

No IEDs here. But then the homeless avoid Phoenix if they can. The summer is lethal if you don't have a home (A/C, water).

If he makes it past the primary it'll validate how dumb Seattle voters are.

Maybe. Or, like AZ, it could be that the other party is putting up crazy people. In which case, voters are going for the least worst. Especially because our system (nationally, and I think in most states) has a tendency to pick the extremes from each party, and pit them against each other. The majority of voters are in the middle, and are stuck with two candidates they don't like...in their minds, voting for the least worst.

1pg, we're talking about the city of Seattle here. There is no functioning Republican party. The entire state barely has one; in the bluest areas we have these flavors of politician:

*Out and out socialists (example: https://www.thestranger.com/guest-editorial/2023/0...)

*Mini-mes of the out-and-out socialists (https://mynorthwest.com/2554518/rantz-seattle-coun....)

*liberal but not insane (https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/politics...)

...there is no alternative candidate to vote for. This place has been deeply and solidly blue for decades and yet voters still vote for the same thing.

The guy I highlighted campaigned on being for more cops and for public safety. Once in office he started voting for defunding the police and showed up at anti-cop protest/riots. His latest stunt was this one:

https://mynorthwest.com/3897499/seattle-city-counc...

...which cost him the last of his business endorsements. As I said, hopefully this guy doesn't make it into the general election.

They might surprise you, Dope1. I would have said the same about the AZ Dem party for many years. Then suddenly we have TWO Dem senators**, and a Dem governor. You just never know.

**Of course, McSally lost BOTH seats for the Reps because she was both angry and crazy. She had a distinguished career in the Air Force, but she couldn't win in freakin' Arizona because she was nuts.

You're 100% proving my point :). AZ voters looked at bad Repub candidates and voted in democrats to do the job.

Seattle/Portland/Oakland etc. vote in the craziest democrats on the ballot, complain about the results...then vote in the same level of crazy the very next election.

I hope it gets worse in San Fran.

I'm not a big proponent for you 401K'ers whining about "Work from home".....but for San Fran I hope so. The less economic activity, the better.

And more people commuting - good, more fossil fuels.

There is no functioning Republican party.

That's the case from coast to coast. The true republicans, aka RINOs, have been marginalized by Fat Don the pandering fraud and his gullible cult.

10 Most Dangerous Cities in America (2023)

1. Memphis, Tennessee
2. St. Louis, Missouri
3. Oakland, California
4. Albuquerque, New Mexico
5. Baltimore, Maryland
6. New Orleans, Louisiana
7. Detroit, Michigan
8. Lubbock, Texas
9. Chicago, Illinois
10.Stockton, California

Memphis, Baltimore, and St Louis usually trade the top spot. Couldn't find the FBI table, but this'll do.
https://www.populationu.com/gen/most-dangerous-cit...

The reported violent crime rate in the United States from 1990 to 2021 (per 100,000 of the population) fell from 758.2 per 100k in 1991 to 395.7k per 100k in 2021. So we're doing much better and part of it was due to the removal of lead in the environment. This is a 48% reduction, but I think the accepted figure is ~43% so far.
