whitehouse.gov - Agreement between the government of the united states of america and the government of the kingdom of denmark
Yup, nothing controversial here. Nothing that couldn't be agreed to through friendly negotiation between allies. Nothing that required a threat of invasion, chest pounding, drama, and outrageous demands like control of the mineral resources of Greenland which, unsurprisingly, are completely absent from this agreement.
So as I illustrated with my allegory, all this could be achieved with a smile, without insults, without threatening Greenland, Denmark, and the whole foundation of NATO. Only a petulant ignorant abusive bully doesn't understand the damage he did along the way. At this point all of America's allies are patiently trying to play along to get along in the hope that they can run out the clock on Trump's presidency without further damage.
In his first term Trump replaced NAFTA with USMCA, an almost identical agreement, so that he could claim it as his own. And in the second term he reneged on his own agreement in a fit of anger. The same is happening with Greenland, replacing the 1951 agreement with a new one that differs on minor technicalities, and we can all wonder what he'll do in his next fit of anger.
