Allstate is not writing new policies in CA due to climate calamities.

https://www.nytimes.com/2023/06/04/business/allsta...

Allstate, the state's fourth-largest property and casualty insurance provider, has stopped selling new home, condominium or commercial insurance policies in California, the company said in an emailed statement. It is the latest insurance giant to say it will no longer offer coverage, citing worsening climate and higher building costs that have made it harder to do business in the nation's most-populous state.

Apparently State Farm also isn't writing new policies.

Surf's up!!!!!

Just one more reward of snobbery and tribalism. Ain't it cool?

Anyhow, that fun stuff aside:

How cute is it that eventually, NY, CA- and FLORIDA will be banding together - to get Federal assistance for property insurance.

LOL

Safeco canceled my homeowners due to "smoke and fire risk" last year. I was offered to change the policy to include everything but smoke and fire, and then add a special policy through the CA high risk pool for just "smoke and fire". The cost was crazy high for this policy. Instead, I was able to get insurance through Mercury for less than I was originally paying Safeco. I will have to wait and see how this unfolds over time.
