I am still catching up with some of my podcasts (or equivalent). Turns out Perun covered some of what albaby and I were discussing recently. Also he goes into IDF needs and strategies. One thing that jumped out at me was a Rand report (from 1981) that said that Israel would be repeatedly at war, essentially, forever. But they were one defeat from ceasing to exist.

Yes, they are 1 defeat from ceasing to exist. That's the nature of the threat they face.
If the IDF gets it wrong once - just once - their enemies sweep them into the sea, literally. There will be no more state of Israel, period.

They've gotten it wrong twice now. But not fatally. And there is the nuclear ambiguity.

Don't just read my precis in the OP, watch the video. Perun is really good. I didn't know that Israel has five subs (soon to be six). But all coastal diesel. They have no need to project power. I also found it interesting how they work their reservist system.
