https://finance.yahoo.com/news/dollar-generals-1-4...

The forward outlook is where things get interesting. Dollar General revised its full-year guidance slightly downward but revealed ambitious growth plans for 2025. The headline? Nearly 4,900 real estate projects, including 575 new store openings and thousands of remodels under the Project Elevate banner. CFO Kelly Dilts underscored the focus on upgrading mature stores to enhance customer experience and drive incremental sales essentially doubling down on core markets while laying groundwork for long-term growth. Capital investments are set to hit $1.4 billion this fiscal year, signaling a clear commitment to expansion

Well, that seems to be the plan, this will take some time to show if it's successful...

A clear commitment to expansion is what they say, but count me skeptical.

Cap ex was $1.7b 2 years ago, and $1.6b last year. Next year's cap ex budget is going to be $1.4b. When I see EPS of $0.89, with $0.59 going to the dividend, nothing to share repurchases, and cap ex budgets actually being cut next year, not increased, it's hard to square that with their words about a clear commitment to renovation OR expansion.

Next year's cap ex budget is going to be $1.4b.

I missed this -- can you point me to where this was reported?

For FY2024, they've guided capex of 1.3-1.4 billion (press release, 10-Q). But I haven't seen guidance on FY 2025, other than real estate projects (without a number attached).

They said this about next year’s capex in the conference call:

any initial thoughts on capex spend just given the significant increase in real estate products anticipated next year? Thank you.

Kelly Dilts -- Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer

“So with that in the new stores, what we're expecting right now is a capex that would be similar to this year's capex as a percentage of sales and making sure that we're investing in those high-return projects.”
