The week's question
In March 2025, in the thread "Re: OT, out", Umm asked the members: "Do you think it is because America is made up of magical soil that makes businesses based in America magically profitable?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

Gabbard & CIA chief contradict Trump on Iran’s nuclear bomb & ‘imminent’ threat level

Gabbard and Ratcliffe said that Iran's nuclear programme stood "obliterated" and had not resumed, its missile programme was still nearly a decade away from being able to harm the United States, and that it did not pose an "imminent" threat to the United States.

In doing so, Gabbard and Ratcliffe rejected the administration's justification for attacking Iran, highlighting the lack of a factual basis for Operation Epic Fury. But they still sought to defend Trump's actions.

They're inflicting massive pain on the Iranian regime. Who knows what happens in a few more months.

Trump imposed a "maximum pressure" campaign during his first term. The Iranian regime is still there.

They've broken Iran's stranglehold on world energy supplies.

Iran did not have a "stranglehold on world energy supplies" until Trump attacked, giving them an incentive to see if they could choke off transit through the strait.
